I’m talking of course about terroir. Terroir (tair-WAHR) is the French term for soil often used in conjunction with the phrase gout de terroir or, taste of the soil. The term is particularly beloved among wine lovers. If you've seen Dirt! The Movie, you’ll undoubtedly recall the scene in which a well-regarded wine expert compares the flavor of the Sangiovese he just chugged to a pinch of the vineyard sandy loam...

Here are some quick facts we want to share with you in honor of Earth Day: Instead of using paper coffee cups, bring your own next time! Plastic water bottle is another huge land fill as only 20% gets recycled Plastic or paper grocery bags are both not good for the environment. Go green and carry your own reusable bag! We each use about 12,000 gallons of water every year & 1/3 of all water is used to flush the toilet! One bus carries as many people as 40 cars! 5 billion aluminum cans are used each year Every ton of paper that is recycled saves 17 trees 84 percent of all household waste can be recycled Composting reduces yard waste volume by 50 to 75 percent! That is a lot of waste going into land fills! Garick is also celebrating Earth Day this year with many different type of promotions at our 5 facility: (click to see each facility) Paygro New Milford Farms...

Garick being a sustainable company always work towards being greener in every way. One of the easiest things we could do to be more sustainable would be to recycle our organics and scraps and turn it into soil amendments.  At our Paygro facility we have organics and food wastes that we constantly compost. Our process of composting is rather long, but we also make sure we add other amendments to our compost to enhance the quality of our products. By composting, we reduce the food wastes going into landfill and we have a valuable byproduct! With this compost we could either grow more food or use it as backfill for trees and shrubs. Check out our “Composting Facts" page for other ideas! Our chart here displays the effect of a closed loop cycle from recycling food. With this cycle we could reduce more wastes and are able to produce valuable soil amendments to grow more food!
